j ' - NEW ZEALAND. INTERCOLONIAL MAIL STEAM SERVICES. PORT CHALMERS AND MELBOURNE. nnENDERS will be received at this Office until JL FRIDAY, the 7th day of December, 1866, for tho performance of a MONTHLY STEAM SERVICE, according to time table approved by the Postmaster-General, a copy of which can be seen at this office, for the CONVEYANCE of HER MAJESTY'S MAILS between Port Chalmers and Melbourne, each way calling at the Bluff, for a period of sis months, commencing on the due date for the arrival of the Engliah Mail, via Suez, at Melbourne, in Januai-y, 1867. The Postmaster-General to have the power of altering the time table and route during the continuance of the contract, provided no greater number of miles is required to be performed in each month. The steamer to await the arrival at Melbourne of the European Mail for ninety-sis; hours after its due date, if required by the PostmasterGeneral, or his agent. Tenders to state the rate per hour for any further detention not exceeding a further period of ninety-six hours. A penalty of four pounds per hour -will bo required for delay in departure after tho time fixed on each voyage ; also, a penalty of three hundred pounds'for failure to deliver the homeward mails in time on board tho European mail contract jsteamer in Hobson's Bay, and a further penalty of two hundred pounds for neglecting to call at the Bluff to land and ship mails, unless prevented by tempestuous weather. All mails to be shipped", landed, and transhipped byandattheexpenseoi'thecontrnctor. A chief cabin passage, free of cost, to be provided for a postal officer, and proper accommodation for tho sorting of tho mails; also, a proper, secure, and convenient placo for the deposit of mails. The names, tonuage, and horse-power of the vessels proposed, to be employed in this service to be stated, and the vessels to be approved of by the Postmaster-General, and subject to be surveyed by eqine person appointed by him whenever he may consider it necessary.
