ARRIVAL OF THE s.s ST. KILDA, FROU
WAITAtfGI.
The s.s. St. Kilda, Caplain Kennedy, from the Chatnin Islands, arrived in this harbor afc 5 o'clock yesterday morning, after a passage of three and a half days. On Wednesday, the (3th inst., she left Napier on her downward trip with fiftysix Han Ilau prisoners, and three months' sloroj and provisions on board. Afrer a very rough passage she anchored oft' Waitangi on the niovning of Sunday, thr lOMi inst. In the afternoon I lie whole of the prisoners were landed and warmly welcomed by their brothers on the island. The following morning the stores and provisions were sent on shore, and the St. Kilda was agnin ready for sea. The weather was most unfavorable, and strong southerly gules detained her until Saturday, tho lGfch iust.., when the weather moderated, and she left at '.!• p.m. for this port, arriving as above. The schooners, Wild \Vavj and Sea Serpent, were at anchor at Waitangi when the St. Kilda left.
From what we can learn on board, ifc appears that there aro now about; 230 Huii "ilau prisoners at Waitangi, under the surveillance of a guai'd, consisting of 13 men, commanded by Lieutenant Tuko. These prisoners are quartered in a number of wliaivsj and aro very comfortable, all hough they complain bitterly of the Cold, which was very severe during the limo t'no St. KiliLi lay at audio!' off W.iifatigi. A number of f lie men have 1 their wivoi and families with them, and the whole of them omipy their time in fishing, looking after sm ill pi its of ground pet ap.irt for them, and dnng little jobs about their whaves. They are very quiet., and do not murmur at their banishment. Among the p.issengors by the St. Kildu, aro three native chioi's, originally from Taranaki, who some years ago settled at tho Chatams, and who have now returned to New Zealand for the purpose of purchasing land in their own province of New Plymouth.
