" There is another new god coming. Intelligence has arrived that the mon of this new god are Kuikomako and Tautnhi ; and it is stated that this god is coming by way of Waikato. He is coining on to Auckland, and the men who are to storm Auckland number sevenly persons. Another army of this god is coming to fight with the Arawas ; and the men who arc to stand up against the Arau as are thirteen in number. It is the rumor only that, we hear; but the Ngaiterangis are undecided as to whether they will go or stay. I heard, indirectly, that one tribe of Tauranga, the Ngaitamarawho, had gone over to the [new] religion ; that tribe, however, were Hau Haus formerly."
On hearing that seventy men vrero coming to storm Auckland, and thirteen to extinguish the Arawaa, weexpressed some astonishment at the smallness of the force, but the native who had received the letter^ explained that their god would be with them, and that in those circumstances, two could chase a thousand. — Southern Cross, Bth insfc. TIIE ROYAL ARTILLERY. The C Battery, 4th Brigade Royal Artillery, have been placed under orders to proceed to England, in the ship Trevelyan. No 6 Company Eoyal Engineers proceed to England by the same vessel, with the exception of about 10 sappers, who will remain behind for duty in New Zealand. DEATH OF A NATIVE CHIEF. Oil Friday, May 31st, the well-known chief Tamati Davis died. The deceased suffered long from a swelling over the temple, and for the pii3t six months has boon living wiUi the " hot-water" fanatics, or " tea-kettle tribe," at Putatahi, they professing to cure him with the power of steam. They failed to cure poor Davis; and it would be hardly fair to say they killed him. D.i via was a member of the Wesley an Communion and wos a worthy man.
