WIFE MURDER AT PIPITEA.

ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. * About half-past 11 o'clock last night, informs tion .was received by the police that a murder had been committed at Pipitea. Sergeant Crowder and Corporal Doreen immediately pro., ceeded to the place mentioned, and found that a man named Walker had murdered his wife, and afterwards attempted to commit suicide. Walker was lately a resident at Rangitikoi, and had recently been taken up for deserting his family. He lived in an iron house at Pipitea, near to Mr. Mecch's. There is a large family, but only fee mother and two children were living at home. A married couple of the name of Low occupied tho front part of the house. From the statement of Mrs. Low, it appears that Bhe left the house afc ' 11 o'clock p.m in search of her husband.- At , that time Walker and his wife were quarrelling. She found her husband, and on her way hsck met Walker's eldest child, a girl about eight years of age. She said her father and mother wero fighting, and on reaching the house, tho other child, a girl about six years of age, ran to her, and said her father had murdered her mother. Low, in company with a young man, named Futtcr, proceeded to the kitchen and found that the statoment of the child was only too true. Constable Eyan went to the house, and on seeing what had occurred, immediately ran for medical assistance. Drs. Boor and Grace were quickly in attendance. On their arrival, they found Mrs. Walker lying on her face, dead, her throat having been cut, and she literally suffocated in her own blood. Walker was lying close alongside her, but life was not extinct. His throat was cut, and a gurgling sound issued therefrom. The Drs. ordered Walker to be removed to the hospital and the body of tho wife to the police-station. According to Mrs. Low's statement, Walker had been at home nearly all day and was perfectly sober, but the wife had been out a greater part of the day. Little hopes are entertained of the recovery o£ Walker.
