KARORI RAOD.

r j (To the Editorof the Wellington Independent.) Sir, — A sum of money -was placed on the Estimates last year, for the purpose of opening a line of road from Te Aro to join the Karori road somewhere about Baker's Hill. i The measure for that purpose was hurriedly got up by the town, and we had no time to give our opinion on the matter. We feel 1 that this branch line would not enable us to cause " two blades of grass to grow where one grew before," nor is it wished by Karori or Makara ; nor will it be any more gain to Wellington (as far as our traffic goes) than it would be to take 1 money out of one pocket to put it in the other. Wood is now scarce in the vicinity of our road, and this branch would not^cnable us to furnish a load the more. The proper line which abuts on the Karori road near the Schoolhouse, opens up much new ground which the people of Wellington know little of, and places a large supply of wood within easy reach of town. But some may think the difficulties insurmountable in such a maze of lull and gully, and would turn away in despair. Convinced myself that a good line exists, (and a good road is the acme of all our wishes) 1 would suggest that we be " penny wise," and throw out a feeler, in the shape of a bridle path, which would effectually decide the matter. The stai* of Wellington is now in the ascendant, and 'tis no vain imaginings to predict the time as not far off, when this chaos of irregularities which has been so long a barrier to this hue, will form the basements of beautiful villas, where men of business may at an elevation of easy reach, overlooking the city renovate their wasted energies by sleeping in a pure air. I cannot imagine that landholders through whose grounds this path leads would be likely to object, as they could not fail to forsee that ultimately it would become a source of great benefit to them. Should any one wish to form their own judgment in tliis matter, I would have much pleasure to direct them to a point easj- to reach, where by ocular demonstration they could quickly decide where the true line should be. — I am, Sir, &c., A PRACTICAL GrROUNDWORKER. Karori, June 19th, 1865.
