The Rangatira. — Narrow Escape from Coli.ison. — The s.s. Rangatira, Captain Muudle, arrived on Thursday morning last, about 8 o'clock. Sho left the Manukau at 6 o.m. ou the 6th, arrived at Raglan during tho afternoon, and left the same day for Tavanaki, whore she arrived next morning; left the same day, Tuesday, tho 7th, at 2 p.m. Towards 5 o'clock that afternoon the Colonial transport screw steamer Alexandra was sighted bearing down upon the Rangatira. The latter continued her course for some time, hugging tho shore, until about 5 o'clock, the Alexandra not having altered her course, and just as a collision seemed inevitable, Captain Mundle ordered the helm hard up, which was promptly oxecuted, and the two steamers passed each other very closely. Groat indignation was expressed by the passengers at the conduct of tho Captain of the Alexandra, who had so nearly jeopardised thoir lives.
