ELECTION AFFAIRS IN THE WAIRARAPA.

i Although a few noisy individuals are con- j stautly getting up political demonstrations | in Greytown, with tho object of showing | that Dr Featherston is unpopular there, yet we are certain the groat body of the settlers j by no means sympathise with them, and but a very moderate degree of support will be given to Mr Borlase. We make this assertion advisedly, and our faith in the common sense of the Wararapa electors is not one ' whit shaken, even though the announcement of "Dr Featheestok "rejected" stares us in the face in large capitals. .Already a strong Committee has been formed in the Wairarapa to secure the return of Dr Featherston, the members of which meet every Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock, at Mr Komble's, Carterton, where the Chairman, Mr Burton Boys, attends regularly for the purpose of meeting the electors, enrolling fresh members of Committee, and furnishing information as to the progress being made. A public meeting will be held at Masterton, on Monday, the 13th instant, at 6 o'clock, when it is anticipated the supporters of Dr Featherston will muster strongly. A meeting for the nomination of members for the Provincial Council will also be held on Saturday, the llth instant, at the Sehoolhouse, Carterton, Without entering into any specific details we can safely state that at no former time have more satisfactory or earnest assurances of support to Dr Featherston been given from the district in question, and, 80 far as the electors there are con cerneel, his return may be looked upon as certain.
