THE ANNUAL DISTRICT MEETING

The Annual Session of Jhe Wellington District of Wesleyan Ministers, commenced on Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the Vestry of the Wesleyan Church, Manners-street, Wellington. The llev. Isaac Harding of Otago, was unable to, attend. We are sorry to learn that the Church, recently elected in Dunedin, for him' has been So damaged by severe gales of wind as to be unfit for service. The early business of the meeting referring as usual to the occupation of the ordinary posts of duty, evinced sympathy with such ministers as had suffered either by bereavement or in discharge of their ministerial duty, and gratitude to God was excited that death had not broken the ranks and that each minister had been enabled to prosecute his work in the enjoyment of health. The application of the usual questions relative to the maintenance of personal pity and ministerial efficiency, which throw round tbe body such a valuable safeguard, were entered into with equal affection and fidelity. The Rev. Joseph T. Shaw, having completed the probationary period of foui years, passed a comprehensive and careful examination and is eordiaily recommended to tbe Conference for ordination. The RevTe Kote, who is labouring in the Chatham Islands, also passed a thorough examination in Christian experience and acqaaintance with God's word, and is also recommended for ordination ; satisfactory testimony having been borne to his character as a Christian, and to his ability as a preacher of God's word. The only change anticipated in the stations is in the case of the Rev. J. Innes, Nelson. The usual financial business was followed by prayerful attention to the question, " Can any measure be adopted for the promotion of the work of God in this District ?" To meet tbe growing requirements of the work the appointment of four additional ministers is recommended to the Conference. The work of God presents an encouraging aspect in euch of the Circuits.
