Hutt Market. — The usual monthly Market was held at the Hutt on Wednesday last, and being a remarkably fine day, there was a large attendance both from Town and Country. There was an excellent shew of cattle, and we are glad to observe, that much more animation was exhibited on this occasion, that has taken place for some time back. A considerable amount of business was transacted by the three Auctioneers present, viz:— Messrs. Smith, & Co,, J. H. Wallace, and J. Martin, and the prices realized appeared to be highly satisfactory to the owners of stock ; and indicated an advance on former prices. Whitewood's Hotel having changed hands, Mr. Valentine, late of the Coach and Horses, Wellington, being now the Landlord, a most decided improvement has taken place both as regards the domestic comfort of this establishment, and general conduct of the business; and the liberal market dinner provided for the occasion astonished all present ; both for its great variety and moderate charges. The _ following is an abstract of the prices realized : — Messrs. Smith & Co., sold the following, viz : — Jack, horse for £16 ; 1 bay colt £24 ; 1 do. £7 10s; 1 bay horse £9 10s; 1 young cow £7 15s; 3 steers for £10 the lot; 1 red cow £5 15s ; 1 do. £4, and Household effects belonging to the estate pf the late Mr. Robert Jillett. Mr. J. H. Wallace also sold, I' steer £3 2s 6d : 1 do. £4 ss; 1 cow £8 7s Gd ; 1 do. £3 2s 6d ; 1 horse £d ; 1 bullock £12 ; 1 steer £8 ; 1 do. £7 10s ; 1 do. £2 12s Gd ; 1 cow £2 12s 6d ; 1 do. £1 12s Gd ; 3 steers the lot £15 ; 4 steers the lot £L 2 ; 1 cow £2 ss; 1 do £6 10s; 1 mare £42 10s; 1 house £22 10s. Mr. John Martin sold 1 bullock £L 2 ; 1 do. £8 ; 1 do. £7 10s; 1 steer £2 12s 6cl; 3 do. (the lot) £15; 1 cow £2 12s Gd ; 1 do £1 12 a 6d. A house and $ acre land for £42 on lease. Birth. — At Napier, on the Ist instant, the wife of Mr. A. Kennedy, of a daughter.
