By the Ariel we have received papers fiora this Province up to the 24th ultimo. The Supreme Court was opened on the 16th January, Mr. Justice Johnston presiding on the Bench. Two men named Shannon and Whiting were indicted for sheep stealing ; but for want of identity of the sheep, the indictment against them failed. George Barrett was indicted for having stolen d mare, the property of Joseph W«tgstaff, and after the case was fully gone into, the jury returned a verdict of guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy. about to leave the colony. The Judge having read the affidavit, said, he should not grant the application, as the evidence Of the intention of defendant set forth in the affidavit was far too meagre.

Patie. — This was a suit between father and son for a sum of money deducted by the latter from £500 placed in his hands some years since; the plea being that it was due for board, lodging, and washing, the plaintiff having lived in the defendant's house since August, 1855. After several witnesses had been examined, and the case Bad besn fairly tried, the jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff. On the 10th January, Aabon Mendoza. was indicted for wilful and corrupt perjury. After a patient investigation, the jury retired', and were absent for two hours and ten minutes^ when they returned a verdict of not guilty upon the first and second counts of the indictment, and of guilty upon the third count. The Judge ad* dressed the prisoner at some length, and sen' tepced him to twelve months imprisonment, with hard labour.

The Court then adjourned until Thursday the 20th ultimo.
