The White Swan brings us Auckland papers to the 4th instant The most important item — an ominous rumour relative to the next meeting of the General Assembly — we have noted elsewhere.

At the second wool sale this season 288 bales were sold, 18 Jd- being the highest price realized.

The timber trade still continues active. , The New Zealander office is now regularly lighted with gas, made by one of Bower's national coal gas apparatus. The Shalimar, had arrived from Liverpool and proceeds to Callao. Mr. McAdam had arrived in Auckland to obtain laborers for Otago, first making application to the Superintendent for his sanction to the proceeding. The Hawke's Bay government have also been advertising for laborers to proceed to Napier. As in the south the want of rain is much felt in Auckland, the pasturage having become "as dry as a chip," and the wells and watercourses are rapidly being drained. The Government Gazette of the 3id contains the usual commercial returns for the September Quarter. The total revenue is £1,000 less than the corresponding quarter of 1858 ; the exports are also £1,000 less, but the imports are £160,000 more, £130,000 of which belong to Auckland. The value of the timber exported from Auckland during the above quarter is £55,000,
