THE COUNTRY DISTRICTS ELECTION
On Wednesday last, the nomination for one Member to represent the Country Districts in the House of Representatives, iv the room of Mr. Ward, resigned, took place iv front of- the Resident Magistrate's Court. A rumuur had ■prevailed during the morning that Mr. William Bowler, who was defeated for the city on the day previously, intended to contest the Country Districts, and a large number of persons attended the hustings in consequence. At 12 o'clock the Returning Oflicer opßiicd the proceedings by reading the Governor's writ; after which,
Mr. J. F. E. Wright, of Goatburst Farm, proposed Mr. Brandon, who was seconded by My. Standen, of Knrori. Mr. Atcbisun, of Wellington Beach, proposed Mr. F. H. Bradey, who was seconded by Mr. Mackay, also of Wellington Beach. Mr. Brandon briefly addressed the electors, but Mr. Bradey did not make his appearance, j A few questions' were put to Mr. Brandon, relative to bis intention of proceeding to Auckland in case the next sitting should be held there, to which Mi. Brandon replied that it was not probable the Assembly would meet for tyro years, and not being able to see into futurity, he could mako no positive pledge ; but that in the event of his not being able to go there, he wo uld resign sufficiently early to prevent their interests from suffering through being, unrepresented. The show of bands being in Mr. Brandon's favour, a poll was demanded on behalf of Mr. Br«dey.
