Gentlemen, I hdve on several occasions been requested to allow myself to be nominated as a Candidate for a seat in the Provincial Council of this Province, but T have always declined to acceed to those requests, because the attendance during the sittings of Council necessarily occupies a great part of the time of its Members, to the serious negiect of their own private business. The Addross, however, which has this day been presented to me, requesting that I will permit myself to be nominated as a Candidate to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr. George Moore, one of the Eepresentatives of tlio City of Wellington in the Provincial Council, is so numerously and respectably signed by electors of various shades of political opinions that 1 consider it my duty at once to comply with your requests. Should I be elected I will give ray cordial support to all measures (hat I may deem beneficial to the general interests of the Province, whether those measures be introduced into the Council by the Government or by private members ; and on the other hand I will give most strenuous opposition to any measures that I may deem prejudicial to the good of the Province. I will also advocate strict economy in the appropriation ef the Public Revenue, consistently with the maintenance of due eflicioncyin every department of the Government. 1 am gentlemen, Your most obedient servant, William Hickson , , To Edward Daniell, \ „ T „ W.
