WHALING.

A fleet of American whaling ships have been remarkably successful this year, in fact, there is nothing on record at all equal to it. They have filled in a single short season, between May and August. They recruited in October and November at the Saudwieh Islands, and proceeded home. Only one British vessel was known to have accompanied this fleet, it was the IVallobj/ of Hobart Town, which filled and returned to that port. The spot is near Eehrings Straits, but full particulars may be obtained at Honolulu, where there is no secret on the subject. It is said the vessels lie at anchor in 18 to 20 fathoms water, and take the whales alongside. The following is a list of the lucky ships. Oils were high in Europe, but doubtless this fleet will affect prices.

The barque Cornelia, Capt. Mickleburgb, arrived on Thursday morning hist, from London via Nelson. She had rather a tedious a:id boisterous passage to Nelson, having been detained for five weeks in the Bay of Biscay, but has had a quick run from that port to Wellington. The Cornelia left London on the 12th November, and therefore the intelligence furnished by her is not so recent as that received by the Travancore, by way of Port Cooper. We heartily congratulate Captain Miekleburgh on his return to Wellington, and trust that his vessel may meet with a return cargo, for she has proved herself to be a smart craft, and her commander a most skilful navigator, having accomplished the voyage to London from this port in 100 days. Mr. Wm. Allen and Mr. J. Marriott are passengers by her, both of whom are old colonists, and will be cordially welcomed back by their friends and acquaintances.
