We are credibly informed that the lucrative and highly honorable appointment of Inspector of diseased sheep and of Slaughter Houses at Port Cooper is still vacant, — actually, as it were, going-a-begging ! Sir George cannot find one, of the many among his admirers— who aspire to be officials,—who will yet accept this office. Surely some experienced butchers, from the neighbourhood ofSmithfieldorHungerford market might be found, who would not " turn up their noses," at one hundred a year, although they might be disposed to do so, when visiting the Shambles and the Scab House, in following their interesting vocation ? It is whispered, (as a further inducement), that the office will also insure a seat in Council.
