PROCLAMATION. BY HIS EXCELLENCY GEORGE GREY. EsgDißi _ Lieutenant-Gover-nor and Cpmmander.in.Chief in and over the Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c. &c. ' WHEREAS, certain disafiected NATIVESin the Southern District of the Colony have taken up Arms, and are now in Rebellion "against the Queen* Sovereign authority, and for the soppression of such Rebellion, Military Operations have been undertaken by Her Majesty's forces. Now I, the Lieutenant-Governor, do hereby Pro. claim and declare, that MARTIAL LAW will be exercised throughout that part of the said District, in the Island of New Ulster, which lies to the South of a line drawn from WANGANUI on the South Ccast, to CASTLE POINT on the East Coast, excluding therefrom the Town of Wellington, as described in a Public Notice of the loth September, 1841, duly published in the Government Gazette, from this 18th day of July, 1846, until the said District shall be relieved from the Jurisdiction of Martial Law by Public Proclamation.
