Semple, in favour of making the Port Road at Wliangamata part of the Main Highway system have been strongly made by Mr F. W. Doidge, member for the district. Last week the chairman of the Thames County Council, Mr D. Courtney, was in Wellington, and, supported by Mr Sutherland, M.P, for Hauraki, he joined in advocating that the Port Road be included in the highway system. Mr Newnham,* chairman of the Highways Board, was present at the interview. The Minister expressed his sympathy with the proposal arid there is reason to hope that progress has been made in the direction desired.
