In a brief address to the Licensing Control Commission, sitting In Hamilton last Thursday, Mr F. A. de la Mare said the New Zealand Alliance conceded that there was need for more licensed hotel accommodaton in Hamilton, but viewed with tome concern the advocacy for new hotel licenses in residential areas of the city.

Varying Values There was considerable diversity of opinion in evidence before the Licensing Control Commission in Hamilton last Wednesday as to business site values. One man mentioned £BOO a foot frontage in Anglesea Street, but he later amended the figure to £BO a foot; another quoted a 40ft. by 100 ft. vacant section in Carden Place, 100 yards away from Victoria Street, at £2600, and a third man gave the unimproved value of the Commercial Hotel property as £52,000. This latter statement, made by visiting counsel, under instruction, was immediately challenged as absurd. However, the figure was later confirmed, the actual figure being £52,485.
