Euilding Costs
When a statement was made at the Hamilton sitting of he Licensing Control Commission last Wednesday that a builder had roughly estimated the cost of erecting a modern hotel at £IOOO per room, counsel for one of the hotel-owning companies immediately ssked for details, but these were not forthcoming, nor was the name of the builder. The chairman of the commission, Mr A. M. Gculding, suggested that the man be referred to as “Mr X’’ and the hearing proceeded.

Bidding started at £SOO, went briskly by hundreds, fifties ( and twenty-fives to £925, and then j slowed to a sedate contest of tens
and fives till the hammer made a final downward sweep at £IOOO.
