MONTHLY MEETING OF WAIHI BRANCH

ACTIVITIES OF JUNIORS The growth of the Waihi branch of the National Party was indicated by the increased attendance of members at the monthly meeting held in St. James Hall last Friday, Mr S. H. Thompson presiding. Business dealt with chiefly concerned the activities of the junior branch. The outstanding success of the recent function at Waimaca prompted members to endeavour to repeat the event and it was accordingly resolved to hold a similar evening at Waihi Beach when an innovation will be the appointment of a junior member, Master Alan Hill, to act as M.C. Thus the juniors, under the guidanec of the vice? chairman, Mr J. Edwards, will largely conduct their own social. A report was received from the chairman, who attended the recent Dominion conference. One of the nam attractions for members were the addresses delivered by various Opposition members of Parliament. The inter-divisional conference recently held at Hamilton was reported on by the secretary. The main interest centred on the organ? Ration and procedure to be adopted to ensure the smooth functioning of absentee, postal and overseas voting. Mr T. Carroll, who will be the candidate for the Eastern Maori seat, contributed some useful information on the organisation of Maori branches. The appointment of bi-lingual scrutineers would be undertaken in every district. Subcommittees', comprising representatives of both races would be established to deal with common problems, chief of which would be the checking of rolls. A letter was received from the St. John Ambulance Brigade requesting a representative to be appointed to a proposed citizens’ committee and Mr Thompson was appointed, the meeting concluding after sundry other matters had been dealt with.
