WEDDING BELLS

GANE—McCARTHNY A very pretty wedding was solemnised in St. James' Presbyterian Church, Waihi, on October 19, when Joy Mary, only daughter of Mr and Mrs E. H. McCarthny, of Waihi, was married to Selwyn Hosking Gane, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Gane, of Te Awamutu. The ceremony was impressively performed by the Rev. T. Hughes and music was played by ■ Miss Gracey, the church being most tastefully decorated by Mesdames Cornthwaite and A. H. Clark. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr H. H. McCarthny, was attractively attired in a graceful white chiffon georgette frock, with heart-shaped neck-line, let in belt and draped skirt, the back of which was pleated and formed a train. The cuffs of wide bishop sieoves, belt and train were appliqued in a design in white satin and her embroidered tulle veil, “topped wit hr miniature white flowers, reached to finger-tip length. • The bride was attended by Miss Mary Briggs and Miss Isobell Broadbent (cousin of the bride), both of whom were daintly attired in shower muslin of green and pink respectively. The bride carried a sheaf of white lilies and maidenhair fern, and Hie bridesmaids sheafs of green or pink lilies with maidenhair fern. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Maurice Gane, of Cambridge, cousin of the bridegroom, and Mi Rex Meehan, of Te Awamutu. After the ceremony the wedding guests assembled in the Foresters Hall, where they were met and welcomed by Mrs McCarthny, sixty guests sitting down to the breakfast provided by Mr Cardinef and staff. The following toast list was duly honoured: “The King,” proposed by Mr W. Heley; “Bride and bride- , groom,” by Mr W. M. Wallnutt, responded t? by the bridegroom; “The bridesmaids,” by the bridegroom,'iespruled to by Mr M. Gane; Mr and Mrs McCarthny, by Mr E. McLeay, responded to by Mr E. H. McCarthny; Mr and Mrs Gane, senr., by Mr H. H. McCarthny, responded to by Mr R. Meehan; Mrs Blencowe, great aunt of the bride, by Mr W. Holey, who was master of ceremonies., Mr H. J. H. Heley, grandfather of the bride, presiding at the piano. During the breakfast Mr R. J. Caundle sang “Because” and “0 Promise Me.” The bride was..the recipient of many beautiful and useful presents. Mr and Mrs S. 11. Gane left later by car to spend their honeymoon touring the South Island, the biide travelling in a smart leaf green ensemble with beige coat, hat and accessories to match. Their future home will be in Gisborne.
