SINGLE MEN NOT IN CAMP POLICY OF THE APPEAL BOARD That Gratio ! single men on farms and in businesses could not expect sine die adjournments in future was a policy outlined by the chairman, Mr Edwin Edwards, at Thursday’s sittingin Paeroa of the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board. Prior to the commencement of the sitting the chairman stated that in view of the fact that married men with children were now being- sent overseas, single men at present on sine die adjournments c-uu,i' not expect. except in exceptional cases, the same decision in the future. The policy would he to grant adjournments until the end of the season to assist the farmers and reservists to make other arrangements. Replacement should be made with Grade 2 or •'! men or with married men with families. Mr R. S. Carden asked the board for information regarding- the method by which Grade 2or men could be secured from the Army. He asked whether it was necessary to apply to the Armed Forces Appeal Board for these: men. Fanners at present did not know how to secure the men which it had been stated would be released from the Army. Mr Edwards re-plied that the hoard had been advised that the Manpower Officer in each area was having- lists compiled of Grade 2 and •'! men. These would he supplied by the Army as soon ns possible. Farmers should therefore apply to the Manpower Officer for workers or if they knew a Grade 2 or ■! man in camp they could ask for his release through the Armed Forces Appeal Board.
