FIRST FLOWER SHOW
ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO FUNCTION IN NEW PLYMOUTH One hundred years ago on February 1, 1943, the New Plymouth Horticultural Society held the first show of flowers and vegetables in Taranaki. It was not the earliest show in New Zealand at Wellington had held one the previous year and it was as a result of this success that the New Plymouth Society was formed to become the senior institution in the province. It is a striking testimony to the industry of the pioneer settlers that so ambitious n undertaking could lx- successfully launched within two years of the founding of the settlement.
