REMARKABLE PLIGHT
LOW ATLANTIC CROSSING URGENT TRIP TO AMERICA The British Air Ministry discloses that a Catalina flying-boat made one of the most remarkable flights of the war, transporting to America urgent documents in connection with the Churchill-Roosevelt talks last December. The height of the crossing of the Atlantic did not exceed 8000 feet, and for 18 hours the aircraft was forced to a height of between 50 and 200 feet through an icy -blizzard. The weight of ice on the wings on the way to -Halifax was 2000 lb. • The dispatches were delivered in Washington 33 hours after leaving London. The flight is believed to be the longest made in darkness.
