KEEP OLD SCHOOL TIE SHOULD NOT BE JEOPARDISED Th old school tie should remain an important part of English life, according to a 39-page report by the Conservative Party sub-committee on education. This report says: “The public schools’ special .contribution is too valuable to be jeopardised. “Their function is to train for leadership. “This contribution would be endangered if there were no independence and the public schools became a mere part of the State system.” Taking this view, the Conservatives squarely oppose Labour and Liberal parties, who believe education is a State concern, and strongly oppose any private or independent meddling.
