HOME GUARD LIGHTING POSITION EXPLAINED POWER BOARD DISCUSSION A brisk discussion upon iiow great a concession, should be made for lighting when it was being used for Home Guard purposes took place at the last meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board. This was brought up by the receipt of a letter from an officer of the Morrinsville Home Guard.
“I told him,” said the manager, Mr R. Sprague, “that the concession didn’t apply; the board only gave a certain amount of free lighting for drilling’ purpioses. The resolution of the Finance Committee is that the matter be , referred back for further information and report to the next meeting.” ” Should Be Reviewed
Expressing the opinion that perhaps the scope of the enquiry of the Finance Committee should be extended, Mr H. L. Boughton (Waihi) said that the question of supplying power to the Home Guard freely should be reviewed. There was a permanent staff now quartered in each centre since Home Guard training had become compulsory, and the lighting should be a charge on the Government and not on the board.
