Children’s War Effort School children in the Canterbury Education Board’s district have raised £7012 in a special war effort since the outbreak of war. This was reported to the board by Mr C. S. Thompson, who said the board would agree this was a splendid effort. This year, up to September 16, they had raised £1951 16s lid for the purchase of soldiers’ parcels. In 1940 they raised £3BOB for the purchase of ambulances, and last year they raised £1852 for parcels. The Children’s War Effort Committee had emphasised that the money should be raised by the self-denial of the children themselves; they were not encouraged to ask their parents for money. The committee was assured by the teachers that this had been done.

Borough Staff Presentation Members of the Waihi Borough Council, the office staff and heads of departments gathered in the Mayor’s room last Friday afternoon to take leave of Mrs Ruskin Clark, who, after two years as a member of the clerical staff, recently resigned Imposition because of her marriage. Reference was made •to Mrs Clark’s efficiency, courtesy and unfailing cheerfulness, not only in her dealings with those immediately associated with her, but also with the general public, and all present joined in wishing her and her husband a long, happy and prosperous married life. On behalf of the council, the Mayor, Mr W. M. Wallnutt, present--ed Mrs Clark with sets of fancy cups, saucers and plates, while the town clerk, Mr F. M. Murray, asked her to accept an electric table lamp, the gift of the office staff and heads of departments. Mrs Clark suitably replied. ]
