If filoselle tangles when you commence sewing make sure that you have not moistened the end to thread your needle. When making sausage-rolls neutralise the fatty taste from the saus-age-meat by adding the yolk of one egg.
Corks submerged for a few minutes in melted paraffin wax will be airtight and can 'be easily cut or bored. Ideal ginger-sandwich filling: Mix three tablespoons icing sugar, a dessertspoon of butter, half teaspoon of coffee essence and a few drops of vanilla essence. Add a little hot water gradually till creamy, then add crystallised ginger finely chopped. If rope or cord has to be exposed to sea or wet weather first rub it well with melted beeswax. Before handling coal, gardening, stove-cleaning or other dirty jobs apply egg-white to the hands; it protects the skin and leaves the hands soft and clean after they have been washed.
