NAZISM AND THE JEWS
RELENTLESS ATTACK ON THE JEWS DISREGARD OF PRINCIPLES “All Christian and humane opinion should be united in a firm refusal to subject African races to a Government whose conception of justice finds expression in the recent attacks upon the Jews. We must hope for the day when we can discuss that question with an altered Germany which stands again for those principles on which rests every civilisation worthy of the name. Some of these principles arc equality of all men, whatever their race; liberty of thought and expression, except so far as this may in special circumstances endanger public order; freedom to worship according to conscience and to proclaim what seems to any man to be the application of his faith to the facts of to-day; and security against deprivation of either property or liberty except as a result of legal sentence after fair trial. All these principles are repudiated in Germany, as in Russia, to-day. That
repudiation is expressed in acts which involve a vast volume of human misery. Our protest must take the form of strengthened loyalty to our principles, and the greatest effort in our power to ease the suffering, with readiness to take some part of its burden to our own shoulders.” —Dr. Temple, Archbishop of York, in a recent speech.
