T. Fry, junr., a Mataura player, had the misfortune to sustain a compound fracture of the leg in the Mataura-Katikati match at Rugby Park on Saturday. The band urgently requires pickle bottles, which they are willing to buy at Id each, but they must be clean and delivered this week to the S. and K. Stores, Seddon Street.

The Peace Cup draw for the 193 S .season has been made by the Thames Rugby Union, and tin; first match in the series will be played at Thames on July l(i. when Hauraki Plains will be (he challengers. The Thames Hospital Board's new ambulance system was inaugurated yesterday. The St. John organisation in Auckland will supply, service and operate the ambulance and collect all fees, the board giving a subsidy of £l5O a year. Charges will be 9d per mile each way except when a patient is transferred from one institution to another by direction of the medical superintendent. The scheme will be reviewed at the end of one year's operations.

There passed away at his residence in Auckland on Saturday an erstwhile resident and businessman of Paeroa, Mr James Henry Moore, who was in his eightieth year. In his early days deceased was interested in mining at Thames and also on the Ohinemuri goldfields. He was one of the party with (lie late Messrs E. M. Corbett and John Goonan who unearthed a very rich lode at Waitekauri. Mrs Moore, four daughters and one son, all reside in Auckland. A brother is Mr W. J. Moore, of Paeroa, and two sisters, Mrs Kevan and .Mrs Short, live in Auckland. Mr E. Fathers, of Paeroa, is a half-brother, and Mrs Walter Phillips, of Wellington, a half-sister.—-"Gazette."
