GOLDEN DAWN

SUSPENSION OF WORK AT MINE AND BATTERY

MATTER OF LOAN PROPOSAL

The report that the Golden Dawn

mine and battery at Owharoa had closed down on Thursday was confirmed this morning by the manager of the battery, Mr J. R. Noble. Recently arrangements for a loan of £4OOO to the company were made with the Government in order that work at the mine and battery might continue. However, it appears some bitch in the negotiations between the company and the Government lias occurred, and pending the completion of these negotiations the mine and battery will remain inoperative. The number of men employed ill the mine and mill when work ceased at 4 o'clock on Thursday was about thirty. It is not thought that the process of adjusting financial matters will involve much delay, and it is to be hoped for all concerned that work will be resumed very shortly.
