HAURAKI REGIMENT

WORK OF BATTALION CAMP

WAIHI REPRESENTED Units of the Ist Battalion, the Hauraki Regiment, were in camp at Rotorua from Saturday, March 28, until last Saturday. In camp also were the 4th Battalion (4.5 howitzers) of the N.Z.F.A., and a detachment of the New Zealand Division ot ( the Royal Navy. Waihi was represented by 19 n.co's. and men, under Captain T. R. Birdsall, commanding the support company, and Lieutenant N R Wynn, commanding the Waihi platoon. Lieutenant - Colonel C. Knight M.C., was camp commandant, with Captain V. J. Innes, NZSC, as adjutant. Excellent weather was enjoyed and useful exercises were carried out. Monday's programme consisted or barrack-square drill and on Tuesday and Wednesday minor tactics were studied. These were followed on Thursday and Friday by major tactics which took the form of an advance by a modernised armed force against an imaginary semi-civilised force The co-operation of infantry, machine gun company, the light mortar platoon and the artillery was demonstrated.
