MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY
BEST WISHES FOR SPEEDY RECOVERY Messages of sympathy with the injured men have been received by the president (Mr E. Dye) and secretary (Mr W. Bice) of the Ohinemuri Mines and Batteries Employees’ Union as follows: “The national secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party and the Labour members of Parliament send their sincere sympathy to the men who had such a terrible experience in the accident. Please convey this message to them. Kind regards to all.” —P. Fraser, president of executive. “Have just heard of the accident at the Waihi mine and I desire to extend my sincere sympathy to the injured, and trust that all will make a speedy recovery. If I can be of any assistance please let me know. Returning to Auckland to-night."—A. M. [ Samuel, M.P. j Mr Jas. Thorn, national secretary i of the New Zealand Labour Party. | wrote as follows: “I would like yon to express, through your union, my sincere sympathy with the miners who suffered in the accident to the cage last Wednesday and to their relatives. I): was a great relief to me that the accident caused no fatalities. Indeed, as reported in the press, it was a miracle that all those concerned did not lose their lives. That
they are alive is a matter for thankfulness to me, and I trust they will all be speedily returned to health." Letters of sympathy were also received from the Rev. J. Ings, Presbyterian minister, the Rev. G. Hall, Methodist minister, and Mr C. Morris, of Auckland.
The following telegram has been received from the assistant-commis-sioner of the St. John Ambulance Brigade at Auckland, Mr F. J. Hutchinson, by the secretary of the Waihi branch, Mr S. R. Birse: “Please accept my heartfelt congratulations for your good work at the Waihi mine accident. You have very soon justified your existence, and I trust that the future will be a bright one for your division.”
