DEEMED GAMES OF CHANCE
FRUIT MACHINES IN AUCKLAND SHOPS SUPREME COURT DECISION By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, this day. The decision of Mr Justice Herdman, delivered yesterday, is that the fruit machines which are in operation in many Auckland tobacconists’ shops are games of chance. His Honour said a machine was operated before him in court, and it seemed to him that any dexterity exhibited by the operator did not dispose of the element of chance. The game was, for all practical purposes, one of pure chance.
