SITTINGS OF COUNCIL UNO HOUSE CENSORSHIP OF “TALKIES” WORKERS COMPENSATION ACT By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, this day. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 yesterday afternoon. The Hon. G. M. Thomson moved that the Government be asked to take into consideration the desirability of establishing a censorship of “talkies” with the object of preserving the purity of the English spoken language, and at the same time to consider the question of checking, as far as possible, the presence of unattended children at cinema entertainments. The motion was amended by the mover urging the Government to make an increase in the percentage of the quota in favour of British films and in that form it was carried unanimously. The Council rose at 2.30 until Tuesday next. The House of Representatives spent the afternoon discussing departmental reports.

The Licensing Amendment Bill (Mr H. G. R. Mason) was read a second time, pro forma, and referred to the Industries and Commerce Committee. The Marriage Amendment Bill (Mr H. G. R. Mason) was pul through its final stages and passed. The Workers’ Compensation Amendment Bill was read a second time and referred to the Labour Bills Committee. * The House rose at 10.30 p.m.
