MISSING IN OPEN ROW-BOAT

THREE NATIVES FROM MATAURA BAY LAST SEEN ON SUNDAY Three natives, the schoolmaster at Mataura Bay, Mr H. E. Hamlin, and two other district residents, were reported as missing to the Waihi police yesterday forenoon under circumstances which leave grave doubts as to their safety. The party set out in an open row boat on Friday afternoon for Bow'entown heads to do some line fishing and left again on the return journey on Sunday afternoon, the boat being seen off the Waihi Beach at 5 p.m. when it was being buffeted by a rough sea and a strong sou-wester.

Nothing further having been seen or heard of them between Sunday and yesterday forenoon, natives residing at Mataura Bay communicated the facts to the police. At the time of our going to press no news of the missing men had come to Waihi. Sergeant D. L. Calwell stated that a search party of Maoris intended putting out in a launch from Bowentown to-day.
