GOLDEN WEDDING

; WAIHI RESIDENTS CELEBRATE | ANNIVERSARY MR AND MRS N. THOMAS It is given to comparatively few to celebrate what is popularly known as their golden wedding, but two highly 1 respected residents of Waihi, in the 1 persons of Mr and Mrs Nichalos Thomas, of Walmsley road, are today in the happy position of cemu memorating the 50th anniversary of their marriage. Mr Thomas is the fifth son of the late Mr and Mrs Thomas Thomas, of Trewellard, Pendeen, Cornwall (England), and on the 14th July, IS7S, was married in St. John’s Church, Pendeen, to Grace Nicholas, second daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James Nicholas, also of Pendeen. The Rev. Charles Edwin Meers performed the ceremony. Mr and Mrs Thomas left England on the day following their wedding on the ship Waitangi (Captain Hodcler) for New Zealand, and after an uneventful voyage of three months, lauded at Port Lyttelton on October 13 th. Proceeding to Timaru they resided there for about four years, but unemployment became rife, and they left for Australia, residing in Victoria and Tasmania for about 25 years. Coming hack to New Zealand in 150 G, Mr and Mrs Thomas made their home in Waihi in that year and Mr Thomas followed the occupation of mining for many years. With the exception of two years spent in Auckland, they have resided in Waihi ever since. Four sons, William Thomas Thomas (Auckland), James Nicholas, Richard Henry and Ivan and three daughters, Mrs .1. Arnold, Mrs A. Ivey and Miss Ethel May Thomas, together wtih eight grandchildren, Mr Stanley Arnold (Waihi),Basil and Leonard Thomas (Auckland), Ernest and Hilda Ivey, James Norman and Olga Thomas, will be present at today’s gathering to share in the natural pride and gratification that tlieir wotrhy parents and graiidparenls feel at being spared to celebrate their golden wedding'.
