Benjamin Jones was tried m the Supreme Court yesterday on charges of attempted murder of Constable Bert Spencer Morrison at Petona on August 25, with an attempt to do grievous bodily harm, and with resisting constables in the execution of their duty. Mr Justice Reed presided, and after hearing evidence, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty on the first charge, and of guilty on the two succeeding charges. The date on which the pris ner will be sentenced will depend on further action by the police in the case of Constable Morrison.
