SMYRNA REFUGEES 200,000 STARRING APPEAL FOR SUCCOUR ' NEW ZEALAND TO ASSIST United Service Telegrams. (Received 2.30 p.m.) GENEVA, September 25. Fiirl Balfour appealed to the League of Nations to succour the starving Smyrna refugees. Britain is giving £50,000* Sir Jas. Allen (New Zealand) moved that the delogate 8 appeal to their respective Governments asking for replies to-morrow. New Zealand is giving £IOOO. (Applause). The motion was carried. It was announced that tho refugees numbered, 200,000. . M. Ador (Switzerland) announced that the international Red Cross Committee on Saturday sent delegates to Smyrna and Brusa to distribute relief. Another delegate had gone to Greece to investigate. Dr. Nansen said that the Russian relief organisation would do its utmost to | assist. It is announced that the Bulgarian Government is ready to undertake the transport of the refugees from Smyrna. 1 to a neighbouring island.
