Heavy rainstorms and gales have swept the city and- coast. .Many cossets have been sheltering, and a number ol northern towns ary threatened with Hoods. A va,-t area of the country is being submerged-. add Gales and Hoods —■ —■ ?
There were extensive Hoods on the north coast on Saturday, L'smore, Mnrwillumhah. Kcmpsey. and Macksvide being inundated. ' Two lives were lost at Murwiilumhah. an-! the damage there is estimated at UCU.OW.
All i ommunication has been out oilpreventing further information coming to hand.
The Ciarence river Durst its hanks ri-ing to twenty-two feet.
North a.nd South Oral tan are parti;.lK Hooded, but the waters generally are receding.
