SUPPRESSION OF NEW
PROTEST BY JAPANESE" PAPERS. (United Service telegrams.) (Received 9.30 a.m.) TO.KIO, March 1. The representatives of seventeen Tokio newspapers held a meeting and drafted a strong resolution protesting against the official suppression of news', and demanding the freedom of speech by the press. The resolution be sent ?to the Minister for Home Affairs. Thirtyone items are; under the censor'si ban, and the newspapers plan a series of mass meetings at which the public will appeal! unless they are given assurances that the censorship will cease.
