FIRST RACE TO-MORROW BOTH VESSELS READY. MANY SIGHT-SEEING CRAFT. (Australian and N Z. Cable.) (Received July 14, 9.50 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 12. The measurements of Shamrock IV. and the Resolute have been complensd, and both vessels are anchored near here virtually ready i'or the first race, which takes place on Thursday, 15th. There are a large number of sight-seeing craft already anchored off the shore and along tho counse °f race. The experts have not yet announced the results of 'the measurements. Many yacht clubs have announced" giving a dinner in honour of Sir Thomas Lipton. The race promises to take on th/j appearance oi" an international festivity.

The cup has; been in American possession since 1871, although in some of the subsequent twenty-seven cha/11'e.nges it has beein retained by only the narrow-' edfc of margins. This season sees Sir Thomas'Lipton moke hils tenth challenge. Onoe in 1901 he.had the satisfaction of finishing firs't, but 'lost by 41 in the time allowance. Shamrock IV., this year's chaillenger, has b):>en built by O. E. Nicholson on original lines, and American critias have a feeling that she imay either startle tibe maritime 1 wwld with her speed and general ability on the great day or -else prove a fizzle. I They declare that they do not believe that her builder himself knows what she will or will not do. It is at least certain that she wifll have to be fast indeed to lift the cup. Sir Thomas Lipton, with id peirennial challenges, has shown a. fine sporting spirit, and aill will wish him at least a straight?out race this year, and not a finish in a fog as happened last time.
