DEATH ANNOUNCED EXPIRES IN SPAIN WHILE ON A VISIT (Aust.rali* and N.Z. Cable.) (Kocpivfd July 12, 9.40) LONDON, July 11 The es-Empress Eugenie has died while visiting Spain. The Empress Eugenie was born in 1826, was the daughter of Count Moniijj of Granada, and on the mother’s side was of Scottish descent. She married Napoleon HI. in 1853, and for many years kept a brilliant court. On the outbreak of tbo Franco-Prussiau War her husband ar.d only son proceeded to the scat ot war with great flourish of trumpets, but after Sedan the Empress had to make hor escape from* Pans in disguise, and took up her abode in England, where she was subsequently mined by Louis Napo leon. They resided at C’his 1 mrst for a time, and there her husband died. Her son went out to the Zulu War in 1879, and was killed by a party of Zulus.
