DISTINGUISHED ADMIRAL DEAD

LORD JOHN FISHER, AFTER LONG ILLNESS; (United Service Telegrams.) (Received J-ily 12, 8 a.m.) LONDON, July 10. The death is avnriouneed of Admiral I.prd John Fisher. The deceased suffered a 'long illness during the winter, and went to Riviera. He returned to London apparently improved. The iatal iilness vr.sa brief, but its seriousness was evident from 'the outset, and an operation wa performed la.st night. Admiral Fisher was conscious to the end. A memorial service will be held in Wcntminstor Abbey on Tuesday. The newspapers unanimously acclaim Admiral Fisher as a grea't national hero.

Admiral Lord Fisher, Q.C.B. was born on January 25, 1811, and was a son of Captain William Fisher, of tho 78ih Highlanders. He was married in 1866 to Frances, daughter of the Bev. T. Delves, Broughton. Re-entered the Wavy in 1854; took part in the capture of Canton and Peiho forts; obtained the Beaufort Testimonial, and was BearAdmiral in 1890; served in the Crimean War in 1855, the China War in 1859-60, the Egyptian War in 1882, and command ed the Inflexible at the bombardment of Alexandria in 1882; Director of .Naval Ordnance 1886-91; Admiral • Superintendent at Portsmouth Dock in 1891 ; Controller of the .Navy; Lord of the Admiralty, 1892-97; Commander-in-Chief on the North American and West Indies Station, 1897-99; Delegate to Peace Conference at the Hapue, 1899, and was Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Station irom 1899 to 1902, and Second Sea Lord of the Admiralty, 1902-3; Commanderin-Cbiaf, Portsmouth, 1903-4, First Sea Lord of the Admiralty 1904 10, and was Chairman of the Eoyal Commission on Oil Fuel in 1912.
