VIOLENT PROTEST

Panama is protesting agai’nst the acquistion by the United States of Toboga Island with the object of facilitating the American defence of the canal. A thousand Panama people demonstrated against General Pershing during the May Day celebrations, and the State ball had to be abandoned. General Pershing was confined to his hotel. Mobs rioted in the streets.
