THE WAIHI MINES
HIGHER COST OF WORKING
DUE TO STRIKE SETTLEMENT.
SMALLER OUTPUT PROBABLE
The following information has been published in London regarding the strike at Wajihi and its prospective results:— "According to cabled advices received from New Zealand the strike has been I stopped, but the Waihi G.M. Co. have I had tb make concessions in wages which, in conjunction with other- increases, will raise the cost of production consider- ' ably, which at pre-war prices of the precious metals would render it impossible to "work large quantities of ore which has previously been regarded as pnyable. In view of the general attitude and 'shortage of labour, it is feared it wTII bo necessary to diminish the amount of output before long."'
