BOROUGH EMPLOYEES
ADViCE TO SEEK OTHER WORK
CURTAILMENT OF EXPENSES.
OHNION OF SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING.
A special meeting of the Wat'lii Borough CouncH was held last night for the purpose of coiisfdering the position ill regard 'to its employees arising out of the -strike, but in the absence of a fuller meeting, occasioned by the deluge which fell, it was decided to adjourn discussion till the ordinary meeting) o? the CouLi/.-il on Thursday evening next. Those present considered it would only be a;u act 'of oonirtesy o«i the part of the Council to wire the Prime Minister t'liat it en-
dorsed the Mayor's previous wire of thanks for Mr Massey's prompt actidi. fvfliich ift. was felt contributed so largely to the successful settlement of Waihi's industrial trouble. The general opinion was that all borough employees would bo well-adv'ised to lose no opportunity of taking cMier work, because it was ccl.isidered that the number would have to be curtailed oiwhig to the position created by reduced revenue from the mining 'industry and by the increase cost (i labour which it was felt the boromgh would have to pay ,im common with other concerns. In these circumstances it would appear foolish on the part of the bbrough employees not to make some effort to seek other employment.
