General do Wet, in a speech at Pretoria, said: "We must be steadfast in ' our determination to attain that which •is not far olf—freedom. None could ' blame us fbr desiring to get biaek our 'independence. They would continue to kneel before England praying i'or independance until she was so tired of them that she would say to them, "Form your awn Government." It was impossible for them to love the Union Jack, j just as Elnglis'hinir-n living in the Trausvaail could not love the republican Hag.
