ATTACKS ON MR. MASSEY
REFUTED BY ACTING-PREMIER
ELECTIONEERING TACTICS. 'l'y Telegraph.—Press Association.) PAUIERSTON NORTH, this day. Sir James Allen Iras replied to criticisms by members <>f the National DairyAssociation. With regard t>--. the assertion that a butter equalisation scheme had eon'ie about, because of Mr Massey, lie points out that Mr Massey was not in Now Zealand when the first scheme was adopted. ''l am able to say that l',o warned me more than once by tuegram about adopting; the scheme." Tho second scheme was not forced on the dairy community by Mr Massey, but; so far as Sir James Allen's knowledge {voes, was agreed to and approved by all the representatives of the industry, lie considered that Mr Massey deserved credit for the strenuous way he lad worked to assist the producers. To <•*. say that he was not a whole-hearted supposte.;- of tho dairy industry was far from the truth. To Sir James Allen's knowledge he had persistently fought in tli# interests of dary farmers and other producers. The assertion that Mr. Massey had promised to discuss a certain question with the Food Controller, aii'l did not do so, was also incorrect. Mr Massey had dealt with the death insurance question, and it" the reference wai not to that, but to tho rcoogntiion of Mr Ellison as the representative in England, he did what was possible at tho time to do. Sir James Allen suggest* that tho reasons for the attacks are not difficult to see, in view of the coming ejection, but ho asks for fair play for an absent man.
