THE COAL SHORTAGE

RELIEF AT AUCKLAND. (Special to the Daily Telegraph.) AUCKLAND, this day. The coal crisis will be somewhat alleviated during the week by the arrival of two vessels carrying between them over 4000 tons. The Waipori duo from Newcastle to-night, has close on 2000 tons, while the Kaituua is expected to leave Westport on Thursday for Auckland with 2700 tons. OUTLOOK FOR THE WINTER. (Special to the Daily Telegraph.) AUCKLAND, this day. A Wellington message states:— Though not taking quite such a gloomy view of the coal question as Sir Janies Allen did in hlis reply to the deputation that waited upon him in Dunedin. the Hon W. D. S. MacDonald, the Minister df Mines, and the Hon. A. M. Myers, the Minister of Munitions and Supples, are by no means easy about the outlook for the coming winter. They have had the matter under constant consideration for months past, indeed, over since the difficulties of last year, and they have surmounted various little troubles that have arisen tram time to time. But stocks have not been replenished, and unless the miners get io work in earnest in the near future, much public inconvenience may be occasioned. It is with a view to averting this that M>- MacDonald is making his tiip to the West Coast.
